WHAT'S NEWPROPERTY IMPROVEMENTSWAHC is making major improvements in its four apartment buildings. With the assistance of the City of Ann Arbor's Community Development Block Grant funds, WAHC has invested nearly $150,000 in the Parkhurst Apartments, the Parkside Apartments and the Southside Apartments. During 2004-05, WAHC completed a substantial rehabilitation of its Gateway Apartment community in Ypsilanti. The project included improvements to apartment units, as well as to common areas, exteriors and grounds. This work was made possible by Washtenaw County's $250,000 grant of Federal HOME funds. RESIDENT INVOLVEMENTWAHC is working to organize and support resident organizations in all of its housing. Such organizations can enable residents to increase the security and quality of their apartment communities. They also serve as a valuable channel of communication between residents and WAHC management. Four residents of WAHC housing serve on its Board of Directors. NON-PROFIT PARTNERSWAHC is working with the local non-profit community organizations, SOS Community Services, POWER, and Michigan Ability Partners, to combine housing with supportive services for very low income families and individuals. |
